What’s Happening Wednesday

It’s another fabulous Wednesday and time to start thinking about the weekend ahead. With these posts I do include other events happening during the week besides just Friday through Sunday. I hope this helps readers find fun things to do! 😀 Feel free to comment about any other events you know of happening in the area.

  • War in Concert – Thursday, June 4th – 8pm to 10pm – At the Carolina Theater – A mix of funk, jazz, R&B and rock & roll, WAR has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, performing live for nearly one million fans each year. The band’s hits include “Low Rider,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends?,” and “Tobacco Road.” For more information on times and tickets, visit the Carolina Theater.
  • Greensboro Grasshoppers playing at home – Thursday, June 4th through Sunday, June 7th – Monday through Saturday games are at 7pm and Sunday’s at 4pm – For tickets, visit their website.
  • Day out with Thomas – Friday, June 5th – June 14th – Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock – Hop aboard with Thomas the Tank Engine as he chugs his way through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Children can meet and take pictures with Sir Topham Hatt, listen to Thomas and Friends storytelling, and enjoy activities in the Imagination Station.   • First Friday Gallery Hop in Winston-Salem – Friday, June 5th 7pm to 10pm – Join the Downtown Art District for the first Friday of every month all year long- Rain or clear Moonlight!- Event includes shops, studios, and galleries opened extended hours. Along with Artist Receptions, artist demonstrations, live music, dancing, entertainment and more! Streets are closed with parking available in surrounding parking lots. Each Gallery Hop is different!   • Free Movie Night – Friday, June 5th starting at 7pm – BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem with be showing Big Hero 6 on the big screen. Free admission with a food donation to Second Harvest Food Bank. For more information visit here.
  • Salute! The NC Wine Celebration – Saturday, June 6th – 4th Street in Downtown Winston-Salem – The North Carolina Wine Celebration has become the premier festival dedicated to serving North Carolina wines exclusively. In its 10th year, Salute! uncorks along Fourth Street in Winston-Salem as more than 35 North Carolina wineries come together to share sample pours of their wines and inform festival goers of the happenings at their wineries.   • National Trails Day – Saturday, June 6th 8am to 1pm – located at Jaycee Park Dr, Greensboro – National Trails day is part of a nationwide event organized by the American Hiking Society. The festival is family friendly, dog-friendly, and free for all ages. Bring the whole family, your lawn chairs or picnic blankets, and settle in for the day. Discover different ways to explore trails whether by guided hikes or mountain bike rides, participate in kayak demos, and enjoy live music, food trucks and a free raffle.   • Clemmons Stride for Courage 5K and Fun Run – Saturday, June 6th starting at 8am – This run is benefiting Cancer Services, Inc.! There will be refreshments, awards, door prizes, live music and more! Technical shirts are guaranteed to the first 200 people who enter.   • Spring Art Fest at the Coffee Mill – Saturday, June 6th 9am to 3pm – Located at the Coffee Mill in Lewisville – There will be local crafts from forty artisans, along with food, pet adoption, and family and pet portraits.   • 3rd Annual Family Arts Festival – Saturday, June 6th 11am to 5pm – Located at Elkin Creek Vineyard’s in Elkin – This all-day arts adventure includes “play shops” for the kids ranging from theatre arts to a music circle with upcycled musical instruments made by participants. The day culminates with a creek-side concert from the Grammy Award winning Kid’s music artist, Danny Weinkauf and his Red Pants Band at 2:30pm. Food and handmade ice cream will be for sale or bring your own picnic lunch. Visit their website for more information and prices.
  • Lawnchair Drive-In Movies – Saturday, June 6th 8:30pm to 11pm – Geeksboro Coffeehouse Cinema in Greensboro – The movie this Saturday will be 1990’s live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Doors for each screening opens at approximately 8:30 p.m., with the movie scheduled to start at around 9 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. Tickets are $2 each and enjoy delicious popcorn and beers under the stars!   • Run Wild 5k – American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) – Sunday, June 7th starting at 7:30pm – North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro – Come run with the animals at the NC Zoo and join zookeepers, friends and family for a good cause. The Run Wild 5k helps to support local and global conservation efforts and funds keeper professional development. Go here for more information and to register for the race.
  • Girls’ Night Out with Forsyth Women Magazine – Monday, June 8th at 5pm – This will be held at Bleu Restaurant & Bar in Winston-Salem – Grab a friend, a neighbor, your sister, your mother, a co-worker, and have a much needed Girls’ Night Out! There will be 1/2 price appetizers until 7 PM and a $3 Margarita Special. Go here for more information on Girl’s Night Out.
  • Winston-Salem Dash playing at Home – Monday June 8th and Tuesday June 9th, both at 7pm – at the BB&T ballpark – For other game days and to purchase tickets, visit here.
